Our Highlights from the LA Auto Show
The LA Auto Show is starting to wrap up its 102nd year of the show! This year has been jam-packed with electric vehicles and record-breaking supercars, along with a fair few trucks and SUVs.
About The Show
The Los Angeles Auto Show, one of the most influential, best-attended auto shows in the World, was founded in 1907. ANSA Productions, the show’s creator, gathers auto companies every Autumn to unveil the future of mobility in what is known to be the car culture capital of the World – Los Angeles.
Here’s a run-down of our favourite highlights from the show so far, as voted for by some of the team at MSS…
Steve, Head of Customer Services, is all about the newly revealed addition to BMW’s compact car range, the 2 Series Gran Coupe, it’s first small 4-door coupe. The exciting news is, the model is already available to order, with UK deliveries expected in March 2020! The Gran Coupe is front-wheel drive, closely related to the recently launched 1 Series, and will use the same FAAR architecture.
Charlotte in Engineering had to be pushed to choose just one key highlight! After some serious consideration, Volkswagen came out on top with what they delivered at the show – which Charlotte absolutely loved. Rather than the main focus being on launching something new, they decided to showcase a range of their historical classic cars to mark 70 years of Volkswagen within the US.
Although the main focus was the 70th Anniversary, Volkswagen did bring something new to the table – the VW I.D. Space Vizzion EV Concept. This is the latest of 7 electric concept cars Volkswagen have brought to the table recently. The car will get 300 miles per charge out of an 82kWh battery.
David, our man in the Midwest, is over the moon that Audi has finally announced they are bringing the RS6 Avant to the US market after enthusiasts’ calls. This model can do 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds with it’s 592bhp, twin-turbo V8 engine. The colour of the model they had at the LA Auto Show was simply stunning! The car will be available in ‘Sebring Black’ when the RS6 Avant hits the US in 2020.
Along with revealing the new RS6 Avant, Audi has also unveiled its second bespoke electric vehicle – the e-tron Sportback. The standard e-tron is all-wheel-drive only, whereas the Sportback version is able to decouple the front and rear axles so it can become rear-wheel-drive, adding a further 6 miles of range.
Audi are bringing the first RS-SUV stateside (expected in 2020) with its 592bhp RSQ8. This ultra-luxe SUV packs a V8 twin-turbo engine – we’re super excited about this one! The RSQ8 is the fastest SUV to lap the Nürburgring track in just 7:42:2 minutes and can go from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds.
David C in Technical Pre-Sales, decided to tip his cap to Mercedes debuting the new 2021 GLS AMG 63 – a 603bhp, twin turbo V8 SUV. Along with this reveal, Mercedes took us back to the 80s and 90s. Available on this new model are 23-inch Monoblock rims – similar to what they used on models back in the day!
The Los Angeles Auto Show has been a whirlwind so far, with new announcements and releases coming out of our ears! It’s safe to say we’ve been overwhelmed with the number of electric vehicles that have been unveiled at the show, but it is the future of mobility after all!
We’re excited to see what these last few days of the show bring and if there are any more announcements or releases.
